Lunch with Santa

The gym that I work at had a fun event called "Lunch with Santa". Rylie was pretty excited to go see Santa and play in the gym, all in the same day!

Talking with Santa while eating her pizza.

Craft time!

Cookie decorating!

Climbing through the obstacle course.

Rylie's Christmas Performance

Our church does an adorable little Christmas performance with the kids the Sunday before Christmas. Rylie didn't really know what to expect, but she was pretty excited when I told her that the song her group was singing was "Joy to the World"...her favorite song (not just Christmas... favorite song, as in year round) in the entire world. My parents came to the service with us and we even skyped Mimi in from California so she could see the performance live! I love technology. :) And yes, we were definitely the parents sitting up front with like 3 different types of cameras going to catch the whole performance. :) She spent the entire first part of the song looking at baby Jesus and trying to find us in the audience. After she located us, she focused on the motions. :)

Pics from December

I just have a bunch of random pictures from December that I love, so here is glimpse of our everyday life this month!

We got Rylie this little tree for her room (side note...this child loves dress up! She never goes through a day wearing normal clothes the entire day. At some point, she becomes a princess, or just puts on any combination of clothes that she wants...hence the headband, princess dress, and random glove). :)

It took Grayson all of one day after he started crawling to find the Christmas tree.

Cheering on the Sun Devils...granted, it didn't really work (they lost) but at least they looked cute!

And we are in trouble! Starting to pull up before he even turned 7 months!

The month of December was hard on her...too many fun activities! She fell asleep in random places all month long (gotta love this outfit of choice)!

How Grayson prefers to crawl a lot of the time!

Playing in our newly finished backyard.

Random sleep place #2.

Loving blueberries for the first time...all the way up to his hair!

One night we headed to the Princess Resort for their light display. It was free, the parking was not...and the light display was not worth the fee in parking. Oh well, you learn! Rylie still thought it was fun!

Rylie's Surgery

Rylie has had a little ball like bump on the front of her neck a little below her ear since she was born. The doctors told us it was a little piece of cartilage the dropped when her ear formed in utero. We decided to have it removed. The surgery was at Phoenix Children's Hospital's outpatient surgery center. As soon as we got there, she got to pick out a stuffed animal to take into surgery with her. She had also brought Ellie (the pink elephant that she has had since she was a baby) and they let her take that into surgery as well.

Getting her blood pressure taken in pre-op.

We could tell she was starting to get a little nervous so Daddy distracted her by playing I Spy.

Cuddles before going into surgery.

Even though it was a very minor procedure, it was so hard to walk out of the room when they were taking her back to surgery. The nurse came and got her and she turned to us and started asking where we were going so the nurse just picked her up and started talking about other things. They are so good at what they do! We headed to the waiting room where they had a board to track exactly where she was at during the whole process. It really only took about 30-45 minutes and then we were called back to the post-op room. We had been warned that coming off of anesthesia could be rough on kids (some act totally possessed for a couple of minutes), but she was great! The nurse told us that she had a perfect wake-up. The surgery went really well and we were soon on our way home! Rylie acted totally normal the rest of the day. You would have never known that she had surgery that morning!

She got balloons from Grandma and Mimi and Uncle Blake drove in that day and brought her a new book and pjs from Mimi.

Decorating the Tree

Rylie was so excited about everything to do with Christmas this year that I knew decorating the tree was going to be a lot of fun. She loved it! All of the ornaments pretty much ended up on 3 branches, but really, who cares?! Experiencing Christmas through the eyes of a child really reminds you to slow down and enjoy the small things throughout the holiday season.

You have to have hot chocolate when you decorate the tree!
